Brands are becoming more & more invested in Facebook as a platform and we as a community are starting to really appreciate the power of social data and the impact this can have on awareness, sales & even footfall. We spend a lot of time talking about ‘the social web’ and the dos and don’ts of what makes a good social experience — e.g. when to build a Fanpage app, when to integrate OG tags to your site & when a like button is appropriate.

When it comes to developing on FB as a platform, however, it appears there’s an elephant in the room. 54% of Facebook traffic is from mobile devices. If you’re a brand owner and are serious about creating an immersive experience on social I believe it’s imperative that you launch something your mobile audience can engage with.

Cross device support is varied and FB haven’t ironed out all the kinks in their mobile offering yet but it’s time to strike. The web is now a multi-platform environment that’s used at your desk… AND on the-go, while watching TV, eating your breakfast (and for a lot of people, on the loo too!).

For agencies like ours, this means creating great ideas that work on the go and thoughtful apps with a clear UX.

For brands & content experts it means more planning and creating great products and content people want to share.
